Heather Langenkamp is most famous for her portrayal as teen heroine Nancy Thompson in Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street. It’s said that Craven wanted someone ‘non-Hollywood’ to play the role of Nancy, and he thought Langenkamp fit the bill. The part was highly sought after, with Langenkamp competing with some 200 other actors to gain the part! The film earned $25 million at the American box office, and Langenkamp received the Best Actress Award at the Avoriaz Film Festival for her role as Nancy.
In 1985 Langenkamp starred in ZZ Top’s music video ‘Sleeping Bag’, reappeared in 1987 as Nancy in ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors’ and had a cameo role as a victim in Wes Craven’s ‘Shocker’ in 1989.
Returning to the ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ franchise, Langenkamp played a fictionalized version of herself in the 1994 film ‘Wes Craven’s New Nightmare’, a post modern, self-referential and vastly underrated film that paved the way for Craven’s ‘Scream’ in 1996. Following a break from acting while she concentrated on her family Langenkamp was again cast in a Wes Craven horror film with ‘Cursed’ but, when this film had to be reshot and rewritten, scheduling conflicts meant that she had to leave the production.
Heather Langenkamp starred in, executively produced and narrated the 2010 documentary ‘Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy’ and the following year produced a documentary entitled ‘I Am Nancy’, which focused on her experience portraying Nancy in the ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ films. In 2012 she starred in the horror film ‘The Butterfly Room’ and also worked on the special effects for The Cabin in the Woods’.
More recently Langenkamp appeared as herself in the documentary ‘Fantasm’ (2013) and had a supporting role in the film ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ and a year later made a cameo appearance in American Horror Story’s fourth season, ‘Freak Show’, as a Tupperware party housewife!
In 2016, Langenkamp starred in ‘Home’ and narrated the fan film ‘Don’t Fall Asleep’. She is set to star in the upcoming films ‘The Sub’, ‘Flashlight’ and ‘The Survivors’ and has a role in ‘Hellraiser: Judgment’ (2017).
Heather Langenkamp will be at HorrorConUK on both Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th May 2017. She will do signings, photo ops and a Q and A each day, with host and compere Tony Earnshaw.
