Julian Sands came to prominence when he was cast opposite Helena Bonham Carter as the romantic lead in the 1985 Merchant Ivory film A Room with a View. In 1985, following the success of A Room with a View, he appeared in Ken Russell’s Gothic as Shelley (1986). In 1989 he played the eponymous role in the horror/action/fantasy film Warlock alongside Richard E. Grant and its sequel, Warlock: The Armageddon (1993). He also had prominent roles in Arachnophobia (1990), Boxing Helena (1993) and Leaving Las Vegas (1995). In 1998 he played Erik, aka the Phantom in Dario Argento’s gory remake of The Phantom of the Opera. He also starred opposite Jackie Chan in the action-comedy film The Medallion (2003). In 2011 he appeared in the English language remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. His many roles on TV include Stargate SG-1, The L Word, 24, Person of Interest, Smallville, Dexter, Banshee, Gotham, The Blacklist, Elementary and the recent Netflix mini series What/If.
