David Morrissey is a prolific English actor who gained widespread recognition for his role in the critically acclaimed series State of Play (2003). Following this success, he continued to make notable appearances on film & TV in such productions as Channel 4’s The Deal, BBC’s crime comedy Blackpool, The Reaping, The Other Boleyn Girl, the 2008 Doctor Who Christmas special, The Next Doctor, Red Riding, Nowhere Boy & Welcome to the Punch.
In 2012 Morrissey joined the cast of The Walking Dead in its third season. He portrayed The Governor, and is regarded as one of the most memorable villains of the entire series.
In 2017, Morrissey appeared in The League of Gentlemen for their much-anticipated 20th anniversary specials series. Recently he has starred in Inside No.9, The Singapore Grip, Britannia, Elle & Natasia, The Colour Room and Sherwood. In 2022, he played the main antagonist Gorka in the horror-fantasy film Dampyr, and in 2023 he played ACC George Oldfield in ITV’s drama The Long Shadow about the hunt for The Yorkshire Ripper. He also plays Mark in the 2023 horror podcast The Sisters.
