Mears got his breakthrough lead role playing hockey mask wearing serial killer Jason Voorhees in Marcus Nispel’s 2009 reboot of Friday the 13th. Due to Mears’ height at 6 ft 5.5″ he is one of the tallest actors to have portrayed Jason.

Aside from his memorable role as Jason, Mears has appeared in hits like Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, The Hills Have Eyes 2, Predators and Hatchet III. He co starred in Tommy Wirkola’s brilliant horror comedy Dead Snow 2: Red or Dead (2014) in which he plays the role of Stavarin, the leader of the reanimated Russian zombies. He has also appeared in many popular TV series such as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Twin Peaks, and Sleepy Hollow. He also took on the titular role in the DC Universe television series Swamp Thing in 2019.
